The Teen Spot recently got the chance to speak with up and coming teen pop sensation Billy Crawford. Billy took some time out of his busy schedule touring throughout the United States with 'N Sync, 5ive, and Jordan Knight to talk to us about everything from his love for Michael Jackson to his new album.

Hi Billy. You recently released your self-titled debut album (featuring the hits "Urgently in Love" and "Mary Lopez"). Listening to it, you can't help but find it uncanningly catchy even if you don't like it. It's definitely accomplished. How did you get all your musical experience and get signed and everything? I heard you started at a VERY young age.

I got my experience in the Philippines for about 8 1/2 years. It took me about 4 years to get signed. I went around [to] different labels and sang for them.

Your first single, "Urgently in Love" has got a good bit of radio airplay. It seems to be doing awfully well and the single was in the Top 10 Billboard Singles. Are you ready for pop super-success like BSB and 'Nsync (your tourmates)?

I'm ready for anything. If it doesn't work, jump to the next single and work.

Is the second single "Mary Lopez"? I heard a rumor that it will be a song called "Supernatural" but it wasn't on the copy of the album that I received. My favorites are "You Got It" and "Higher Than High" (that would make a good single).

The second single is "Mary Lopez". "Supernatural" is only for England.

I see. Now, can you explain your background to me? You come from the Phillipines and you were quite the pop star there, right?

I started in the Phillipines at about 3 years old.

And you're bilingual too. Aren't you?

Yes, I speak Tagalog.

Where do you get the inspiration for your songs and your music in general?

I get it from Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Al Green, Marvin Gaye.

Any explanations you can offer about the meanings of some of the tracks? "Tragedy" kind of sticks out in my mind...what's that about? "you get a funky feelin' / watchin' me through the fence / you wanna have my soul / and steal my confidence" It came across to me as someone trying to push someone into doing something immoral or bad, am I right?

"Tragedy" is a deep song and you are right. It's all about the negative pushers out there.

In your "Urgently in Love" video, you do a good deal of dancing. How'd that come about?

I started to dance at the age of 5 or 4. I learned by watching Michael Jackson's concerts.

How do you feel about touring? Do you like it? And how was the UK tour (the tour before the current US tour with 'Nsync)?

The UK tour went great. It's hard but worth it. I met a lot of people and girls of course. I'm loving every single bit.

Oh, YOU mentioned the girls. So, what about your love life?

I was talking to someone but it's not working out.

I see. Overseas, in the UK especially, you've had a great deal of success...are you ready for the US audiences that can make or break a band?

I'm ready for it.

What was it like singing the theme for Michael Jackson at the 1995 MTV Music Awards?

It was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had.

So, what's coming up in the future? This would be a good place to plug the new album too.

The album is out now. I'm getting into producing and writing. I'm working on my second already. I'm also going into acting as well.

Well, it's been nice talking to you Billy! Best of luck with the rest of the 'NSync tour and the rest of your musical career!
